Mark Mayne asked:
The car scrap scheme was launched in the UK on May the 18th 2009 and was designed to help boost the UK car industry. Owners of vehicles which are more than 10 years old are entitled to £2000 off the price of a brand new vehicle. Despite some initial criticism more than 38 manufacturers signed up for the scheme but many have been left asking how does the scheme work?
Put simply the new scrap car scheme works on a grant basis whereby both the government and the individual car manufacturer put forward £1000 towards the discount on the new vehicle. In order to make use of the new scheme vehicle owners must also go through several formal checks.
What’s required?
Firstly the scheme is only applicable to cars and vans under the weight of 3.5 tons. Vehicles must also have been registered before the 31st of July 1999 and does include the late T registered number plates. Vehicle owners must also be the registered owner of that vehicle for more than one year before they can take advantage of the scheme. The vehicle being exchanged must have a valid MOT certificate.
How To Take Advantage
To take advantage of the scheme people must take their old vehicles to the dealer and provide them with the necessary documentation. This includes log books and MOT certificates. The dealer will then check the documents and the vehicle and once accepted will be sent off to the scrap car yard of their choice.
Dealers must also be presented with a car scrap voucher from the government. This entitles them to the grant.
The scheme runs until February 2010 and £300m has been assigned by the government to the scheme. The scheme not only benefits car users but also the car salvage dealers who have seen a sharp increase in market value.

Sharon Tulley asked:
Scrapbooking can be a great way to share the memories of your family and friends by taking advantage of a creative medium and organizing them in a pleasing way. For many of us, the problem is getting organized in the first place!
A scrapbook is like a photo album on crack (or steroids, if you prefer to go with something less illegal. Or Red Bull, if less illicit). With a scrapbook, you’re not limited to photos; anything you have that you want to save and/or display, as long as it will fit reasonably, can be included. All of your favorite knicknacks, trinkets, and other memorabilia can make great additions to a scrapbook.
1. You Need Help (Or Could Use Some)
It might take hours to go through the items you want to include, but this can be one of the most fun parts of the process. You can make it even more fun if you manage to convince your significant other, spouse, parents or kids to help you with your scrapbooking ideas.
2. Theme It!
The next step in scrapbooking (or “scrapping,” as some like to call it) is to design a theme or layout - there could be a recurring theme throughout the book with a different layout for each page, or you could theme every new page independently of the others - the beauty is that it’s completely up to you. Your theme can be as simple or as involved as you want it, but remember not to be overzealous; less is more in many cases.
3. Use Your Tools
Grab anything and everything you can think of that might be of help. Odd shapes make good stencils or borders, and trying several types of adhesives and writing implements will allow you to get the best results with your materials. You can never have too much colored paper, either!
4. Get A Second Opinion
This isn’t medical plan 101, I’m talking about actually asking for input from your friends on what they think. It’s hard sometimes to have tough skin and deal with any critiques or criticism someone might have, but I’m sorry to say that it’s part of being a designer! The visual appeal you are trying to create can always benefit from a second set of eyes, no matter what the application.

Bobby Rio asked:
Several years ago I discovered the magic of goal setting. Yes, I said magic, and it is, indeed, magic.
Any motivational coach or self help guru will preach the benefits of goal setting. The reasons are simple. If you give yourself something to strive for, something to put your focus and energy into, you’re more likely to achieve success than if you walk blindly into the future.
A tip that I wanted to share with all of you is the idea of creating a goals book. I did this a few years back and have seen tremendous results.
A goal’s book is simply a journal or scrap book in which you write out detailed descriptions of your main goals. It is important to be as specific as possible with your wording. For instance, instead of saying “to lose weight,” say “I will be 145 pounds, with 8% body fat, by the January 4, 2009.” There is an old saying that vague goals produce vague results.
Once you have a specific goal written down, write down the reasons you must achieve it. Make a list of all the benefits you will see upon the completion of the goal. By writing out all of the benefits you will see upon the completion of the goal you are creating leverage. Leverage is basically the incentive to achieve your goal beyond a mere goal.
Next take some time to right down the obstacles that you will have to overcome to see the achievement of your goal. It is important you spend some time and be honest with yourself. If you know up front exactly what you will be facing on your journey, you can be better prepared for it.
Once you have a list of all of the obstacles, write down the qualities that you possess that will enable you to overcome those obstacles and achieve your desired outcome. It helps to think of some of the goals you have achieved in the past. I usually recommend writing things down like I am persistent when I want something. Last year I taught myself computer skills even though I thought it was impossible. By writing these success stories down on paper you are reminding yourself that you already have what it takes to achieve your goal.
Finally, I recommend filling the goal book with magazine clippings of inspiring images and photos. If your goal is a new car, put a picture of the exact make and model you want into your goal book. I also recommend printing out inspiring quotes or phrases that you can read to motivate you.

The 2008 hang gliding pre-worlds in Laragne, France. “let it be” was sung by an Irish pilot sitting around the campground late one night. The bells tolling while we unpacked our gliders in Greifenburg, Austria. And flying around the clouds with Zippy. A Pre-World scrapbook.

Wanting to try a new hobby? Or just needing to expand your library, Halfvalue is a great place to get Supplies and Instruction books you will need. Just like anything else in life, practice makes perfect and most artist are not born with the “know how” to get started. So look for Art & Craft Instruction Books. They can be the jumping off point for a new hobby or even for making money.
When looking for Art or Craft Instruction books, you must determine which media you want to try or use. There are Oil Paintings, Watercolors, Pastels, Acrylics, Quilting, Sewing, Decopage, Embroidery, Cross Stitch, Drawing, Pen and Ink, Pattern Books, You also will want to also look for books that have great pictures to help you “see” what you will be doing and to use as a comparison guide.
There have been thousands of books and booklets written for this purpose. Which ever media and type books you decide to try, always remember to read the description the buyer places in his/her listings. If you need more information email a message to the seller and ask specific questions. If you don’t get an answer you may want to reconsider bidding on that particular book. Please give the seller time to respond, (we are not online every minute of every day). Also watch feedback. Sometimes bad communication is the cause for negative feedback and the seller is not really at fault, sometimes it is. The higher feedback the chances are you will have no problems. Sellers listings should tell you what payments they accept and where they will ship. Another thing to remember as a buyer, always check the shipping. International prices for shipping can be high, and I am sorry to say I have seen sellers charge high rates for shipping to cover looses on the item. ALWAYS check BEFORE bidding. A last important thing when buying books to remember, make sure the condition of the book is fine for your use. Sometimes with old or used books, pages yellow, or get loose. Check the description to see that the books are in useable shape. I also have bought a book that looked like it came through a flood and was described as good shape. Most sellers are honestly trying to describe items clearly. But some ones “good shape” is someone else “poor” or even someone else “excellent”. Ask before bidding any and all questions and at least with enough time allowed for seller to respond. If you buy from a seller and enjoy the experience place that person in your Favorite Seller’s to make searching esier, and faster for you. I have a lot of repeat customers and so do other sellers and we all love repeat buyers. Sellers and customers a like are looking for someone they can trust and increase the pleasure of “Halfvalueing”. Search the sellers feedback to see if they constantly place these type of books, or email and ask them. Some art and craft books are one time listings. You may never see that particular book again so bid if it is a price, and type book you want. Art and craft books are wonderful presents for those loved ones that you never know what to get for.
